There has been sporadic violence in the Pakistani city of Karachi after a court decision to remove the head of the country's top anti-corruption body.
Deedar Hussain Shah's appointment was quashed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday. He had been appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari, whose ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) called for a national strike against the decision.
Sindh province, a PPP stronghold, has been most affected by the strike.
At least one person was killed in violence overnight after the ruling. Transport was suspended, educational institutes and most markets closed down.
The BBC's Syed Shoaib Hasan in Karachi says that while there is substantial public support for the strike in rural Sindh, people in towns, especially Karachi, have opted to stay indoor for fear of violence.
