TEHRAN -- Iranian director Hossein Parsai is planning to stage a musical version of “Oliver Twist” in Tehran.

“The play script has been written by Shahram Ahmadzadeh based on Charles Dickens’ masterpiece ‘Oliver Twist’,” Parsai told the Persian service of MNA on Friday.

“However, it can be considered a new version, because modern equivalents for the concepts that the original version conveyed have been introduced,” he added.

“In fact, the play is independent of Charles Dickens’ novel in some ways and is affected by issues of modern life,” he stated.

Harakat Troupe will stage a live performance of the play with a large ensemble.

Actors with skills in singing will also be hired for the cast, Parsai said.

In addition, the cast will include young adults who play Oliver Twist and the street urchins from the story, he added.

Rehearsals will begin soon after the troupe can finish recruiting its cast for the play, which is scheduled to go on stage in May 2016.
