Iran among first three countries in reducing maternal mortality rate

TEHRAN – Health Minister Marzieh Vahid-Dastjerdi says according to the statistics released by the World Health Organization (WHO) Iran stands among the first three countries in the world which has succeeded to reduce pregnancy-related deaths significantly.

The pregnancy-related deaths have been reduced from 240 to 22 per 100,000 births since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Vahid-Dastjerdi explained. 
She predicted that the figure will fall to 15 by the end of the fifth development plan (2010-2015).
