TEHRAN – A senior Iranian religious scholar on Saturday wrote to Pope Francis, the current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, thanking him for his recent remarks that Islam is free of violence.

In his letter, Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi also stressed that it is necessary for religious leaders to adopt clear stances when it comes to accusing religions of violence, the ayatollah’s website reported.
