TEHRAN – The 6th International Green Film Festival, Iran’s sole environmental event on motion pictures, has put its spotlight on movies promoting green economy, the secretary of the festival Farhad Tohidi announced in a news conference on Sunday.

Accordingly, topics such as clean energy and sustainable cities will also be taken into consideration in selecting movies for the festival, which will be held in Tehran and some other Iranian cities from July 22 to 28, he added. 

He pointed to the UN World Tourism Organization’s decision to name 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and said that the festival also plans to highlight sustainable tourism this year.

Filmmakers from around the world can submit their works in short, feature, documentary and animated films until May 21.

This year’s festival will organize an art competition on the sidelines for photographers, graphic designers, illustrators and cartoonists.

Tohidi expressed his hope that the festival would also organize a market for environmental films.

The organizers also plan to screen films made by park rangers in the out of competition section.

The festival aims to launch a national movement to help preserve the environment and draw people’s attention to the country’s deteriorating environment as well as raise awareness on how to protect it through the cinema and art.
