1st Islamic University Opened in Ukraine

TEHRAN -- The first Islamic University of Ukraine and a mosque were inaugurated in the city of Donetsk in a special ceremony on Friday. The ceremony was held in the presence of ambassadors of Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kuwait and Kyrgyzstan. It was also attended by the mufti of Crimea, Donetsk city and regional-level officials and Orthodox clergymen.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the university and the mosque, Governor of Donetsk Viktor Yanukovich said that all religious congregations (over 800 in all) live in peace and accord in Ukraine. The first Islamic University of Ukraine was inaugurated with the message of President Leonid Kuchma. The Islamic University will provide the students with courses of Arabic language and the Holy Qoran. The first students are 25 males aged between 18 and 25.
