TEHRAN – A senior advisor from the IRGC stated that Israel should anticipate a strong response from Tehran following the assault on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria.

General Iraj Masjedi, advisor to the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps and former Iranian ambassador to Iraq, made the remarks on Monday.

He emphasized the connection between terrorist groups targeting Iranian territory and the Zionist regime, as well as the United States.

Masjedi drew upon Iran's historical confrontations with extremist factions, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as insurgent elements operating in Iraqi Kurdistan, to support his assertion. He stated that any occurrence of terrorist activities in the southeast of Iran likely implicates involvement from Zionist quarters.

Masjedi's remarks reflect a broader concern within Iran regarding external influences in regional security dynamics. Despite these challenges, Masjedi expressed confidence in the Islamic Republic's robust capacity to confront and neutralize such threats.

He pointed to the successful operations resulting in the elimination or apprehension of all identified terrorists as evidence of Iran's effective counter-terrorism measures.

Furthermore, Masjedi emphasized the delicate geopolitical landscape of the southeast region of Iran, highlighting its vulnerability to potential incidents. This underscores the Islamic Republic's steadfast commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity and ensuring stability in the face of external pressures.

Last Monday, Israeli warplanes launched a devastating airstrike on the consular annex of Iran's embassy in Damascus. This brazen act of aggression resulted in the loss of 13 lives, including seven members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps stationed on a mission in Syria. The strike has sent shockwaves throughout the region, further exacerbating tensions between the two adversaries.

In response to this egregious violation of international law and conventions, Iranian officials have vehemently reiterated the country's inherent right to deliver a resolute and proportional response.
