Bosnian activist on Sumud: ‘The success of the flotilla depends on global support’

During a Sarajevo press conference of the Movement to Gaza on Monday, Bosnian humanitarian worker Boris Vitlacil joined live from Italy, where he is finalizing preparations to sail with the Global Sumud Flotilla from Sicily toward Gaza.

“The success of the flotilla depends on the support we will receive from around the world,” he said, according to Sarajevo Times, noting pledges from Genoa dock workers to block ports if contact is lost, students planning school blockades, and legal backing from an Irish vessel.

Vitlacil revealed that over 400 tons of aid were collected in Genoa — far exceeding the 30-ton target — in what he described as a non-violent mission to open a humanitarian corridor.

Recalling Bosnia’s own wartime solidarity, he added, “I met people who once tried to save us, and now they are helping Gaza.”
