Prominent poet, researcher Abdolhossein Jalalian passes away

TEHRAN- Abdolhossein Jalalian, a celebrated poet and expert on the works of legendary Persian poet Hafez, passed away on Friday. He was 97. 

Abdolhossein Jalalian (March 21, 1928 - February 6, 2026) was born in Yazd. He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown and pursued higher education in pharmacy and medical laboratory specialization at the University of Tehran.

He later joined the Ministry of Health, where he worked in laboratory roles until the end of his administrative service in Yazd.

Dr. Jalalian was a poet known by the pen name "Jalali." His poetry collection, comprising over 5,000 couplets, is titled "Stone Steps." He gained fame particularly for his humorous verses written in the Yazdi dialect, expressed through ghazals. Jalalian authored a four-volume commentary on the Divan of Hafez, published under the title "Jalali Commentary."

Other notable works by Abdolhossein Jalalian include "The Epic of Behrouz and Bahram," "Ten Great Men in Iranian History," "The First Ney Player" (a reflection on Shams Tabrizi and his words in poetry), "In the Footsteps of Hafez," and "Gof Mof."
