BRUEL, Germany A Jewish cemetery located in a forest in northeastern Germany was defaced by red swastikas and the Nazi salute "sieg heil" scrawled on tombstones, police said on Saturday, AFP reported.

Police opened an inquiry into the use of the symbols, which are banned by the German Constitution.

Authorities have not arrested any suspects.
