TEHRAN The Islamic Union of Iranian University Professors sent an open letter to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, on Friday.

Signed by the Secretary General of the Union, Professor Najafqoli Habibi, the letter draws the attention of the Leader to "a small sample of the injustice imposed on the Iranian society, that we could not find any organization to effectively deal with, except your honor."

"We are witness to a new wave of vast and systematic attacks against the esteemed president, the house of the nation or Parliament, and the other manifestations of the republicanism in our system, that are seemingly moves made to defend the Islamic aspect of our system, but those who are gifted with wisdom know that these moves are actually aimed at uprooting the dear Islam," reads one of the opening paragraphs of the letter.

"Efforts of the representatives of the nation aimed at barring the future path of such catastrophic scenes, as what we witnessed in attacks against the Tehran and Tabriz universities and student dormitories, have now born fruit in passing a law that prohibits the illogical entrance of the disciplinary forces into the university campuses, the houses of the esteemed sources of jurisprudence and the theological schools.

"But even this achievement has become a pretext for attacking the Parliament and the elected representatives of the nation simultaneously with attacking the foundation of the Iranian universities and swearing at them shamelessly and wickedly. We are now witness to heavy insults aimed at the centers of scientific works, culture, and wisdom, and the safe haven of the sagacious folks and the wise that is one of the most pivotal pillars for strengthening the independence of the nation and assuring the development of the country," says the professors' letter.

The letter then draws the attention of the Leader to the articles and caricatures published in certain publications, which reflect on the one hand the wrath and hatred of the circles that are boycotted by the nation and are actually dying politically, aimed at the centers of thought and the intellectuals that feel responsibility toward enlightenment of their society.

"But since unfortunately they are connected to sources of the nation's public treasure, and due to their relations with certain officials of the system, they are actually ruining the prestige and dignity of the Islamic system and its prominent authorities," emphasizes the letter.

The university professors have assured the Leader that they can no longer remain silent observers vis-a-vis all such insults against the cream of their society.

"We believe your honor, who are yourself a scientific-cultural figure of the country, and whose record of acquaintance with the wise university folks, both before the victory of the Islamic Revolution and after it is known to all of us, would easily figure out that the stand adopted by such publications, willingly or unwillingly, is aimed at the general performance of the Islamic system, and such foundations as the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, which has been led by your honor during most of the years after the revolution," reads the letter.

The university professors have then requested the Leader to react vividly to such insults according to his responsibilities as the Leader of the system, and due to the due respect that Ayatollah Khamenei has always paid to the folks of thought.

"We particularly request you to do so, since the pioneers of such impudent groups often organize such waves of attacks under the pretext of supporting the leadership and as the managing directors or bosses of foundations and organizations that are attributed to your excellency and run on the public funds of the Muslims," reiterates the letter.

The university professors have then announced that they have lost hope in the Judiciary system, having been witness to the current atmosphere prevailing there, and that is the reason why they have chosen to write a letter to the Leader. They have also said that by sending it openly they have meant to let the people know that the dear Islam and the officials of the Islamic Republic, the two topmost ones of whom are two wise cultural figures, are clear from such allegations.

The letter then addresses the grand sources of jurisprudence, the sincere clergies who feel responsible, and the theology professors at the seminaries not to remain silent about such impudent insults against the universities, which will, want it or not, leave no religious circles unharmed either, if left unleashed.

The Islamic union of the Iranian university professors has also sympathized with all the esteemed professors, dear university students intellectuals, and university staff suffering due to the unfortunate course of the recent years' anti-thought developments and requested them not to consider such baloony insults as the standpoints of the dear Islam or the Iranian revolution, and to feel sure that the sacred soul of the Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the late Imam Khomeini is definitely harmed and depressed due to such unwise moves.

The professors have finally prayed to God to send down lights of his divine guidance to save the dear Islam from the threats it is currently entangled with due to the performance of some narrow minded, diverted from the right path of Muslims, thus also clearing the Islamic system and its high ranking officials from the blots inflicted on them due to endless destructive moves of such narrow minded individuals.
