TEHRAN Signs of dryness has been seen in the Isfahan's major river "Zayandeh-Roud", the reports said.

Zayandeh-Roud river, which cuts through Isfahan, had virtually dried up late last August because of the unprecedented drought wrecking the nation. In December, the water began flowing again after being dry for some four months.

Mojtaba Khalilian who is in charge of Water Protection Department in Isfahan told IRNA that the river is on the verge of drying because all the water accumulated behind the water reservoirs have been used for water supply purposes.

He said that the recent rainfalls have fallen short of compensating the consequences of the severe drought, the region's worst in 30 years.

Recent rain and snowfall has helped put an end to the drought, which is believed to have killed more than 800,000 head of livestock, according to UN estimates.
