TEHRAN In the past four months, over 10 countries have expressed willingness to employ the Iranian innovated system of gravity drip irrigation, said Dariush Me'raji, the chief executive of the project, here on Saturday.

The official added that by using the gravity drip irrigation system worked out by Iranian experts, additional land will be brought under cultivation.

He said that the classical method of drip irrigation is not economical, adding that the old system also requires technical maintenance.

The new system will optimize the use of water, do away with the need electricity power, require simple equipment, can be used in mountainous regions. It can easily be set up on small plots of farmland and there will be no threat of blockade in droppers.

Me'raji further said that the cost of irrigating every hectare of agricultural land by the new system under whatever circumstances will be at last half of the cost of the old system.

Elaborating on the advantages of the new system, Me'raji called on Iranian officials to facilitate mass production of the necessary equipment for gravity drip irrigation system.
