TEHRAN Pakistan is our neighbor and Iran was among the first countries that recognized Pakistan as an independent state at the end of British colonial rule in the Indian Subcontinent in 1947.

Since then both the countries have enjoyed best possible ties in all known areas of cooperation. The same is true for other countries in the Indian Subcontinent.

There is no doubt that Iran is a country where complete religious, sectarian and ethnic harmony exists and the country can rightly boast enjoying one of the most ancient and healthiest cultures and civilizations in the world.

In Pakistan the Shi'a community is in a minority while in Iran Sunnis are in minority. Shi'as and Sunnis belong to different schools of thought. Both believe in the unity of one God, the holy Qoran and without doubt they believe in holy Prophet Mohammad (S), last messenger of the Almighty.

No doubt there are certain occasions where both look in different direction. This is not the time when we should go into details of those different direction' as what we are saying is that there are more common and vital beliefs followed by both the sects of Islam.

In Pakistan, there are two religious organizations including, Sipah-I-Mohammad Pakistan (SMP) of Shi'ite community and Sipah-I-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) of Sunni Muslims.

Frequently pieces of news surface at international scene that the SMP and SSP had fighting and so many Muslims have been sacrificed just because they were Shi'ite or Sunnis.

Last week top leaders of SMP and SSP held a meeting on the eve of holy month of Ramezan and they vowed they would do all to stop bloodshed of innocent people.

This news is encouraging with a reservation that enemies of Islam are still at work. During the last 10 years over 10,000 Muslims have sacrificed their lives for sectarian clashes.

Top officials and even common members of the SMP and SSP must leave no stone unturned in keeping national unity in tact and disappoint the worst enemies of not only the Muslims but also human being.

Sectarian, ethnic and religious unity is the key of prosperous Pakistan.
