AMELIA ISLAND, Florida Elena Dementieva kept on her winning ways here Tuesday when she defeated France's Nathalie Dechy 6-4, 6-3 in the second-round of the WTA 565,000-dollars clay court tournament.

The in-form Russian has now won 11 of her past 14 matches.

Dementieva, who received a first round bye, now owns a 4-2 record over Dechy.

Russia's Nadia Petrova beat the eighth-seeded Chanda Rubin of the United States, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Rubin was playing in only her third tournament of the year after knee surgery and still needs more time to build her stamina.

In all American match ups, Jill Craybas surprised No. 11 seed Amy Frazier, 6-2, 6-2, the 10th. Seeded Meghann Shaughnessy toppled Sandra Cacic, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5 and No. 12 seed Lisa Raymond cruised by Jennifer Hopkins, 6-4, 6-1, AFP reported.

And the 13th. seeded Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia stopped Patty Schnyder, of Switzerland, 7-5, 6-3, while Henrieta Nagyova of the Czech Republic held out American Lilia Osterloh, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
