SYDNEY Australia said on Wednesday it planned to cut its intake of officially recognized asylum seekers because so many immigrants were arriving illegally and claiming refugee status, Reuters said. Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock said Australia currently takes in about 12,000 refugees a year through official processes. But he said that number would have to be cut to accommodate Immigrants who entered Australia illegally, many of them arriving by boat along sparsely populated stretches of coast.
