TEHRAN The governor of the city of Omidieh in Khuzestan Province has denied a statement issued by presidential candidate Abdollah Jasbi's election headquarters in that city that its offices were attacked by unknown assailants.

On Thursday, a fax was sent by Jasbi's election headquarters to IRNA, claiming that some people had attacked its offices and torn some posters and placards.

Describing the imaginary assailants as "advocates of violence", the fax claimed that the incident was the second such attack on Jasbi's election offices in Khuzestan Province.

The governor and head of the Election Supervisory Committee of Omidieh categorically denied the report. The claimed attack on his election headquarters in Ahvaz was also denied by the office of the city's governor.

It seems that Jasbi's supporters are resorting to an old and cheap tactic to get publicity through arousing public sympathy for their candidate. Similar tactics have been used in the past to create instability and disorder for the sole purpose of gaining political leverage.

The people have now seen through these cheap tactics and are no longer fooled by such tricks. Those in charge of Jasbi's election headquarters should remember the old saying: "You cannot fool all the people all the time"!
