Globalization Is the New Form of Imperialism and Colonization

TEHRAN A professor of sociology in northern California University explained the globalization process and the accelerating role of the rich countries upon it.

Professor Charles Kurzman, being interviewed by the Overseas Service of IRIB last Monday, said that the term "Globalization" was put forth on those days that all countries were considering the world economy. Globalization was a new term for what was known in the past as Imperialism and Colonialization.

Kurzman believes that the present conditions are accelerating the globalization process which had really begun at the end of World War II, but during the few years has attained a much more significant and uncontrollable speed.

Professor Kurzman asserts that a worldwide attempt is needed to stop the present process and thinks no one country alone can succeed in this crucial job.

He says that in the present time all poor nations are scrambling to join the globalization process and the world economy, which is exactly what many industrial and political leaders of the rich countries of the world want to achieve. Also, the nations that are apparently loosing the game want the globalization process to continue in a way that they can enrich their own economy. But we see no effective action from rich countries toward balancing the economy.

The American professor points out that the rich countries are always playing a major role in this respect and the poor countries can do nothing for stopping them and have no alternative but to follow.

He says the American influence on the world lies in its economical power; this country is producing all its products very easily, and exports them through a strong and full-scale distribution system that other countries cannot compete against.
