TEHRAN Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov on Tuesday discussed on phone, issues of the Caspian Sea as well as latest developments in the occupied territories of Palestine.

The two ministers stressed the need for an accord, which will ensure the interests of all littoral states of the Caspian Sea, the Press and Information Department of Iran's Foreign Ministry said.

Ivanov said Russia wants all the coastal states of the Caspian Sea reach an agreement over the legal regime of the waters as soon as possible, it said.

Kharrazi, instead, stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the Caspian a sea of peace and friendship and calls for an expedited decision on the legal regime of the in-land waters, it added.

The Iranian foreign minister described any unilateral measure of the coastal states for the exploitation of the sea as impractical which would trample the rights of other countries.

The five littoral states of the sea are scheduled to meet in the Turkmen capital Ashkhabad in October to decide on a legal regime for the waters.

Kharrazi and Ivanov also expressed extreme concern over the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian land, which have plunged into a gulf of violence in the wake of recent Israeli rocket attacks.

The Iranian minister said the Islamic counties expect the international community to press the Zionist regime over its crimes in the Palestinian territories.

Ivanov hailed the Islamic Republic's attention to international issues and said that Moscow would use all its means to settle the crisis in the region.
