Basic Cultural Issues Need to Be Solved Jointly
Praising the recent letter addressed by the Head of Majlis Cultural Commission Ahmad Pournejati to President Khatami, Iraji told IRNA here on Wednesday that the referred issues have been formerly brought up by the cabinet, the Majlis Cultural Commission, third development plan headquarters, the annual budget asse ssment headquarters and the Management and Planning Organization (MPO).
He added that such issues are admitted by all the said institutions and that they are determined to direct their attempts toward solving them.
Referring to the need for change of the attitude toward the policymaking and planning trend of cultural and artistic issues, he said, "The public traditional belief in this respect has been revised in recent years as a consequence of Islamic Guidance Ministry's follow-ups, cooperation of Majlis, in particular, its cultural commission, as well as the close attention of the government and MPO.
He pointed to the formation of industrial and cultural council as a sample of such a revision of outlooks and recalled that the gap created over years might not be narrowed in the short run. Iraji added, "Given the increasing domestic demand for cultural goods, the ongoing cultural events are developing both in quality and quantity. However, the national cultural production need to be constantly diversified and modernized in order to prevent the youth and young adults from being mere consumers of the foreign cultural products."
He concluded that since it is not a static sector, it's required credits and facilities might not be increased by normal trend, but would rather call for special attention.
