Daily gas consumption in Iran hits new record high

TEHRAN - The head of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) announced the registration of a record 726 million cubic meters of gas consumption in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, calling on the public to help maintain the country's gas network sustainability in the upcoming cold days by adhering to standard consumption patterns.

Referring to reports received from the National Gas Dispatch Management Center, Saeed Tavakoli said: “Unfortunately, gas consumption in the residential and commercial sectors has reached an unprecedented 726 million cubic meters, a consumption level that is unique and actually irrational.”

“Out of the 875 million cubic meters of gas injected into the country's gas network, approximately 83 percent was consumed in the residential and commercial sectors; an indication of the high share of this sector during cold weather conditions,” he added.

Comparing this statistic with last year's consumption, the official stated that the peak consumption in the residential and commercial sectors last year was around 703 million cubic meters, and although we predicted that consumption this year would exceed 700 million cubic meters, due to the intensity, extent, and widespread cold in the northern and northeastern regions of the country, consumption reached the current level.

Given that the cold weather is expected to continue in the west and southwest of the country, the only way to maintain gas sustainability for consumers is the public's increased cooperation, Tavakoli said.

“In some parts of the country, gas distribution networks are in a capillary state, and reducing or fluctuating pressure at the end of the network can affect some consumers; therefore, consumption management in these conditions is of utmost importance,” he stressed.
