TEHRAN- The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said that since the beginning of the Iranian year 1404 (March 2025), 223 licenses have been issued by the company for the construction of electric vehicle charging stations at fuel supply stations, and 27 stations have been put into operation.

According to a Saturday report by IRNA from the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, Mohammad Sadegh Azimifar announced this news and added: According to the approval of the Economic Council in Bahman 1403 (February 2025), from the beginning of 1404, the issuance and renewal of activity licenses for all urban and intercity fuel stations are conditional upon allocating the required space for the construction of a single-nozzle electric charging station. He stated that the technical, safety, and standardization requirements have been developed with the participation of all stakeholders, and feasibility studies and investor attraction have also been carried out.

The Deputy Minister of Oil, referring to the fact that it is possible to obtain a permit for the construction of an electric vehicle charging station through the national portal of licenses for all applicants, emphasized: With the current trend, it is hoped that the share of electricity in the country's transportation basket will increase.

Azimifar continued: In addition to building the aforementioned infrastructure, the company has signed a memorandum of understanding for replacing 20,000 old gasoline-burning motorcycles used in Tehran with electric motorcycles.

Referring to the determination of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company to electrify the transportation fleet, he clarified: The draft contract for 3,200 electric motorcycles has been finalized since Bahman 1404 (January/February 2026), and given the legal duties of the Organization for Optimization and Strategic Management of Energy, it is awaiting a decision and approval by this organization.
