ABADAN, Khuzistan Province (Mehr News Agency) -- It takes 9 months to construct the city of Abadan, Italian Architect and Designer Dominique Gerbino said here on Saturday in a meeting hosted by Abadan Mayor Seyed Ali Bahreini. He appreciated the Iranian hospitality and said, “Abadan is not in good conditions but a good cooperation between the mayor of Abadan and regional officials can immediately hit the ideal position.”
Bahreini also said that Abadan is the sister city of Catania (a port city in Southern Italy which placed on Ionian Sea) and added that it was the main reason an architect form Italy has been invited.
Italian architect and designer is invited by Abadan Municipality in order to reconstruct and beautify the city.
Abadan is located in south western Iran near Iraqi boundaries and it was destroyed during Iraqi attack to the country in the Iranian calendar year of 1359 (started on March, 21, 1980). Abadan Refinery which was Iran's first refinery was completely ruined during the eight-year war. RN/IS END MNA
