Musharraf for closer Iran-Pakistan cooperation

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Monday urged greater collaboration between the Guardian Council of Iran (GCI) and the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) to reach out to the downtrodden Muslims and bring about a positive change in their lives.
Talking to a delegation led by Ayatollah Jannati Secretary of the Council, the President stressed further strengthening of relations keeping in view the geographic, historic and cultural affinity between the two countries.The President stressed the need for adopting a conciliatory approach, rather than a confrontationist one as it was vital for peace in the region.
The Secretary of the Council said it has a special relationship with the legislative body in Iran. He also expressed his appreciation over the smooth transition to complete democracy and the transparent conduct of general election.
He said Iran believed in having a close affinity between the two countries and desired further strengthening of bilateral relations.
He also expressed appreciation over the reconciliation efforts in Pakistan and said those who wanted to destabilize the country were against Islam.
