US, Israel stirred riots in revenge for defeat in June war: top MP

TEHRAN - An Iranian parliamentarian says the reason behind the Israeli regime and the United States’ involvement in recent riots in Iran was the result of their defeat during the June 12-day war they waged against the Islamic Republic earlier this year.

“The enemy’s defeat in the recent war led to its decision to take revenge on the Iranian nation through instigating chaos,” said Ebrahim Azizi, the chairperson of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament.

In recent days, the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran provoked riots in the country through their trained operatives and mercenaries. The armed rioters vandalized public property, triggered terror, and killed more than 100 security forces as well as ordinary people by hijacking peaceful protests by a number of Iranian business owners over economic conditions and livelihood issues, mostly caused by unilateral US sanctions.

Accordingly, Iranian security forces firmly dealt with rioters and foreign-backed insurgents, making numerous arrests.

In a statement released Sunday, the public relations office of the IRGC’s Vali-e-Asr unit in Khuzestan detailed the defensive operation and elaborated on its coordinated efforts with forces from the Intelligence Ministry for “the precise monitoring and timely intelligence action.”

In a recent operation, security forces confiscated various types of lethal weapons intended for use against civilians and government facilities.

The detainees are charged with a wide range of crimes, including the “shedding of innocent blood” and the “destruction of holy places.”

The operatives had been tasked by foreign agencies to carry out targeted assassinations of elite figures, stir ethnic division, and sabotage vital infrastructure such as water, electricity, gas, and oil pipelines.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei also asserted that many agents behind the “sedition” were trained and recruited by American and Israeli spy agencies.

Across the country, more than 3,000 individuals have been detained in connection with the unrest.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the MP underlined that Iran will avenge the killing of the innocent people whose blood was shed by the foreign-backed agents.

“We will give you a crushing and befitting response,” said the top parliamentarian, adding that people expect the Judiciary to deal with those involved in the recent riots.

He said all relevant institutions should look into the “dimensions of the recent crimes” committed by foreign-backed agents to take to task all those who made calls for, and organized the riots.
