‘Proposal focused on lifting US sanctions’

TEHRAN- Iran says that “important” and “practical” proposals were advanced during negotiations in Geneva on Thursday morning on Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.

Through Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, who acts as intermediary between the Iranian and American negotiators, Iran presented “detailed proposals” to the U.S. side

A senior Iranian official has told Al Jazeera that their proposal focused mainly on the lifting of U.S. sanctions and dealing with U.S. concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

“Our proposal for a solution includes technical and practical tracks and data that prove that we do not want a nuclear weapon. Our proposal confirms that our uranium enrichment is a sovereign right and offers a temporary freeze on enrichment for a limited period,” the official said.

“Our proposal for a solution in Geneva does not include any ideas regarding our missile systems and defence programs. The principle of zeroing enrichment forever, dismantling nuclear facilities and transferring uranium stockpiles is completely rejected”, the official added.

The official affirmed that their proposal included reducing uranium stockpiles to low-enrichment levels under IAEA supervision and included an aspect of achieving “common interests, especially in the economic dimension”.

“Our proposal in Geneva is politically serious and technically creative and includes everything needed to reach an agreement immediately,”  the official added.
