Minister Calls For $14bn Investment in Marine Industries

TEHRAN Industries Minister Gholamreza Shafe'i stated here Monday that $14 billion should be invested in various marine industries, once all the contracts relating to South Pars project go into effect in the next five years. Addressing the Second National Seminar on Marine Industries, Shafe'i said the investment would be possible through the cooperation of banks in financing of the insurance companies in guaranteeing investment. Referring to geographical changes in the region, establishment of new republics and the need for these countries to have access to the Persian Gulf waters, the minister called for upgrading the country's marine potential and increasing its share in the transportation of oil derivatives and non-oil commodities from the region. He put the value of contracts signed in the domestic marine industries products at $645 million and said, out of this, credit line had been opened for $80 million. Meanwhile, Commander of the Naval Forces of the Islamic Republic Army Admiral Mohtaj said that government plans to export $140 billion worth industrial products per annum in the coming years.
