Politicizing Every Single Incident
One unfortunate accept of urban living in the country today is that due to various social and economic problems, the rate of violence, mugging, burglaries and even armed robberies has sadly risen in society. Newspapers and particularly the tabloid press, cover a large number of these incidents every day. It is surely the duty of the Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) to tackle these unwanted incidents.
The dedicated LEF members are indeed doing their best to rein in the offenders, criminals and outlaws, but to what extent they have been successful in their mission is up to the public to judge.
The Secretary General of the Islamic Revolution Mojahedin Organization (IRMO), Mohammad Salamati, on Monday night was attacked by two assailants, who stole his briefcase and rode away on their motorbike. But when Salami started chasing them in his car, they stabbed him in his arm.
Interviewed by reporters in hospital, Salamati said that some groups are trying to destroy IRMO, and they are trying to collect some documents against this organization. He added that he was sure the assailants were not common thieves, and that they thought there were some documents in his briefcase that they could use against his organization.
Commenting about this incident, the commander of the Tehran Law Enforcement Forces, Brigadier General Mohsen Ansari, said that the attack on Salamati was not politically motivated, since if there had been political motives behind this assault, he would have been attacked during the robbery.
Ansari said that based on the investigations, it has become clear that there were no political motives behind the incident, and the attackers only intended to steal Salamati's briefcase. He said they stabbed him only when he started chasing them.
After former publisher and Tehran city councilor Saeed Hajjarian was attacked by some assailants, who shot him in his head and caused partial paralysis of his body, very bravely and logically asked at a meeting with his friends and colleague that they must avoid politicizing every single issue and refrain from misleading the public opinion by describing every incident as a premeditated operation aimed at achieving certain political objectives.
The attack on Salamati was unfortunately one out of tens of such incidents that has become a daily occurrence in a very large metropolis such as Tehran. The assault on Salamati should be condemned like any other attack by thugs and hooligans on innocent citizens. However, those political circles and media trying to capitalize on this unfortunate incident by attributing it to their rival political factions should be reminded of what Hajjarian told his friends and avoid politicizing every single incident.
