Pakistan Expels Indian Embassy Official in Row Over Bomb Blasts

ISLAMABAD Pakistan on Saturday expelled an Indian embassy official for alleged involvement in acts of espionage and subversion in the country, the Foreign Ministry announced. P.N. Nair has been asked to leave Pakistan within 72 hours, the ministry said in a statement. The statement, which did not give the official's position, said he was declared persona non-grata following a spate of terrorist bombings in Pakistan which had killed many.

The Indian deputy high commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Office and told that the government of Pakistan had incontrovertible evidence of the involvement of P.N. Nair in acts of espionage and subversion, it said. He was also told that Indian intelligence agencies were actively sponsoring acts of sabotage and terrorism in Pakistan in blatant violation of the UN Charter and international norms proscribing terrorism.

Pakistan last week lodged a strong protest with the government of India at what it called the organized campaign of terrorism launched by Indian intelligence agencies against Pakistan. (AFP)
