Momayyez’s memory lives on

TEHRAN -- An exhibition entitled “In Memory of Momayyez” opens today at the Tehran Gallery, announced gallery director Azita Sharaf-Jahan on Thursday.

The exhibition honoring the father of Iranian graphic art, Morteza Momayyez, will display works of Momayyez’s friends including Bahman Mohasses, Ahmad Esfandiari, Parviz Kalantari, Gholam-Hossein Nami, Hannibal Alkhas, Mohammad Ehsaii, Mansureh Hosseini, Aidin Aghdashlu, Hossein Zenderudi, and Reza Bangiz.

“Works of Iranian painters who played key roles in modern Iranian painting and also had relationships with Master Momayyez will be exhibited in the event,” said Sharaf-Jahan.

The gallery has borrowed the works from private collectors Gizella Varga Sinaii, Janet Lazarian, Hamid Hashemnia, Feryal Salahshur, Jahangir Kazeruni, Elaheh Javaheri, and Mohammad-Ebrahim Jafarian.

A number of Momayyez’s works are also slated to be displayed in the exhibition, which will open with the screening of two films about Momayyez by Bahman Kiarostami and Seifollah Samadian and the presentation of two lectures at the Avini Hall of the University of Tehran Faculty of Fine Arts.

The exhibition will run until March 15.

Momayyez died of prostate cancer last November.
