TEHRAN -- “Eastern art is far superior to Western art in terms of content, theme, thought, and interpretation,” the curator of Afghanistan Museum of Contemporary Arts said on Monday.

Rahro Omarzad, who also has participated at the International Painting Biennial of the Islamic World underway at Tehran’s Saba Art and Culture Complex, added that Eastern artists consider art as the manifestation of faith and intuition. However, artists only take the form and technical aspects of art in the West. “The pulse of art is stronger in the East.”

Commenting on Saba complex, he stated that the venue could serve as the biggest center for presenting artistic works of the Islamic world in the region.

In addition, the biennial could present new ways of artistic expression as well as featuring the latest activities, changes, and evolutions in artistic fields among Muslim nations, he said.

He believes that the event also highlights the significance of establishing a union of Muslim artists.

The 4th International Painting Biennial of the Islamic World opened on Nov. 27 and runs until Dec. 21.
