October 24, 2000 - 0:0
BEIRUT Tycoon Rafik al-Hariri emerged as the main contender for Lebanese prime minister on Monday after President Emile Lahoud's first round of consultations with parliamentary deputies. Seventeen abstained from making a nomination, saying they supported a government program rather than political figures.
