TEHRAN At least four prisoners were killed and dozens injured Sunday as police opened fire on a mutiny by hundreds of inmates at a jail in northwest Pakistan, officials said in Peshawar.
Police said the trouble erupted when prisoners resisted a routine search for arms and drugs.
Clashes broke out between police and inmates after prisoners claimed jail authorities had beaten up some of their colleagues.
"The prisoners chanting slogans attacked the administration officials with rocks while their colleagues joining the revolt went on a rampage," an official said.
