Nearly 7,900 km of secondary, rural roads asphalted, made safe

TEHRAN- The Director General of the Office for Secondary and Rural Roads Affairs of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization stated that by the end of Bahman this year (late January 2026), asphalting overlay and safety improvement operations had been carried out on nearly 7,900 kilometers of secondary and rural roads across the country.

According to IRNA's report from the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, Seyed Reza Sharifi stated: During this period, asphalting overlay was performed on over 3,500 kilometers of secondary roads and more than 4,300 kilometers of rural roads in the country.

He expressed: During the 11 months that have passed this year, with the implementation of groundwork operations on 4,082 kilometers and asphalting on 2,836 kilometers of rural roads, easy and safe passage for villagers in various regions of the country has been facilitated.

According to the Director General of the Office for Secondary and Rural Roads Affairs of the Road Maintenance Organization, the construction of 2,196 technical structures (such as bridges and culverts) on the country's secondary and rural roads has also paved the way for the enhancement and improvement of road infrastructure in these areas.

In another part of his speech, Sharifi reported the existence of 203,248 kilometers of rural roads, including asphalted, gravel, and dirt roads, and 38,995 kilometers of secondary roads in the country.

He added: The Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, by carrying out construction, maintenance, and safety improvement operations on secondary roads and rural routes (prioritizing villages with over 100 households), seeks to improve and enhance the accessibility indicator for residents of these areas through suitable and safe access routes, and continuously implements the plans developed in this regard.
