Iranian Musical Instruments on Display at Sa'd-Abad Complex

TEHRAN An exhibition of Iranian musical instruments is being held at Sa'd-Abad Art Complex. The exhibition, which opened on Feb. 1, aims to familiarize people with the traditional music and different musical instruments.
Among the musical instruments on display at Sa'd-Abad Art Complex are tar, setar, violin, santour, tonbak, daf, kamancheh, barbat, robab, ghichak, tanboor, delgosha, delroba, delnavaz and several other musical instruments made during the past half a century.
According to experts, the Iranian music dates back to 6,000 years ago. The oldest existing relic related to the Iranian music is a seal dating back to 3,500 B.C. It was unearthed in the Choghamish region near the city of Dezfoul.
There are some reliefs at Taq-e Bostan monument in Kermanshah Province which show a number of musicians playing their musical instruments. Experts believe that the reliefs date back to Sassanid period.
