TEHRAN There are different attitudes toward the Intifada, or general uprising, of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories. Some believe that the Intifada will not be able to go on any longer in the face of great economic pressure imposed on the Palestinian nation.

The Overseas Service of the IRIB interviewed the Palestinian journalist Navvaf al-Dowr and asked him whether the Intifada is capable of going on despite the great suffering inflicted on the Palestinians.

In reply, he said, "Some analysts believe that the Intifada has conveyed its political message and there is no need for its continuation. Thus, they call on those wielding influence over the Intifada to try to reap the political results of this uprising, which has been going on for the past few months.

"Other analysts argue that there is not a balance of power in the current conflict between the two sides. Therefore, they suggest that the Intifada should come to a halt in order to prevent further massacre of Palestinians. They suggest this because they are not well aware of the nature of the Zionists and their plots against the Palestinians.

"However, the views of the Islamic groups are completely different from the views of these analysts. The Islamic groups believe that the Intifada should continue despite the economic pressure imposed on the Palestinian nation. Fortunately, most of the Arab political parties, including the socialists, are siding with the Islamic groups on this issue."

He went on to say, "Thus, I think the answer to your question will be given by the Palestinians in the occupied territories who have risen up against the Zionist occupiers. The fact is that the escalation of Zionist atrocities against the Palestinians, including the continued violation of their rights and destruction of their homes, has left no alternative for the Palestinians but to continue their Intifada."

Al-Dowr was further asked what impact he thought the Zionist brutalities and suppressive acts against Palestinians might have on the cause of Palestine.

"When the Palestinian people rose up against the Zionist occupiers, they were well aware of the Zionist suppression and militarism, but they intended to foil the sinister plots of the Zionist enemy through their uprising. Today, even Palestinian children know very well that the Zionists follow expansionist policies and aim to Judaize the whole Palestine. What is clear is that the Palestinian nation will continue its Intifada until its victory over the Zionist occupiers," he said in response.

In another interview, the official spokesman of the Egyptian group Ikhvan-al-Muslemin (Muslim Brotherhood) told the Overseas Service of the IRIB that the parliamentary faction of the ruling party opposed the issuing of a statement in condemnation of Zionist atrocities and suppressive acts against the oppressed Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Ma'moun al-Huzaibi said, "Considering the current incidents in the occupied territories and the escalation of Zionist brutalities, including the destruction of Palestinian homes, our parliamentary faction suggested that a statement should be issued in condemnation of Zionist atrocities, but the ruling party's parliamentary faction opposed this suggestion."
