TEHRAN -- French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine said on Tuesday evening that Paris is concerned with the fate of the Afghan people and that Tehran can play a fundamental role in this regard.

During a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharrazi, he said that France is regularly in contact with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan.
