TEHRAN - After attending the 55th Cannes Film Festival, Iranian critic Ali Mo'allem said that a higher quality and a wider variety of films were screened at this year's festival.

He described the film *****Divine Intervention***** directed by Palestinian director Elia Suleiman as the best film of the festival, adding that the film is quite different than other films.

He said that the Palestinian director was able to depict the critical situation of Palestine in a satirical way. Suleiman's film was the first Palestinian film ever screened in the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Mo'allem added that the Iranian films ****10*** directed by Abbas Kiarostami and ****Bemani*** directed by Dariush Mehrjouei were also highly acclaimed at the festival.

He said that ****Songs of My Motherland***** by director Bahman Qobadi received good reviews from the critics and won the Francois Chalet Prize, and a film by an Iranian director residing in Sweden won the Young Critics prize.

He stated that the biggest film distributors are from the U.S. and that little space has been left for other countries, adding that this year's Cannes film market was not as crowded as it was in previous years.
