TEHRAN -- Expediency Council Chairman Hashemi Rafsanjani on Wednesday called on Lebanese officials to be more vigilant in solving the country’s political problems.

“The Zionist regime and its allies are trying to take advantage of the situation and even by fomenting the crises,” Rafsanjani said in a meeting with Lebanese Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mansour. Lebanese leaders should do their utmost to settle their problems, he said, adding, “The Lebanese officials can resolve the problems in a vigilant and logical manner.”

The Islamic Republic of Iran will support any good willed and comprehensive initiative to secure the interests of Lebanese people so that the country can get out of the current crisis, the EC chairman noted.

“National consensus and unity and public participation of all Lebanese groups can thwart plots hatched by domestic and foreign mercenaries,” Rafsanjani remarked.

For his part, the ambassador said sooner or later Lebanon will get out of the current crisis through national consensus of all political and ethnic groups.
