TEHRAN -- Mahur Publications recently released a double-CD album entitled “Qajar Tasnifs”.

A band featuring celebrated Iranian musicians Darvish Khan on tar, Baqer Rameshgar on kamancheh and vocalist Abdollah Davami performed 32 tasnifs (songs) composed by Abolhassan Saba for the album.
The band used Faramarz Payvar’s sheet music of the Saba tasnifs which he published 10 years ago, Davami explained.
The first part of the album was recorded during Davami’s sojourn to Tbilisi and the second part was recorded at his house.
The smash hits “Az Kafam Raha”, “Selsele-ye Mu-ye Doost”, “Tab-e Banafsheh” and “Eshq-e to Atash” are some of the songs on the album.
Abdollah Davami (1891-1980) was one of Persian traditional music’s greatest singers and tonbak virtuosos.
He trained many students including Abolhassan Saba, Faramarz Payvar, Mohammadreza Shajarian, and Mohammadreza Lotfi.
