TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has commemorated Iranian diplomats killed by Taliban in Afghanistan 17 years ago, saying that the Iranian people and officials have been the victims of terrorism from the very beginning.
“The Mazar-i-Sharif incident is another evidence that the Iranian nation and officials have always been the victims of terrorism,” Rouhani said in a meeting with families of the martyred diplomats in Tehran on Tuesday.Apart from Mazar-i-Sharif, the Iranian embassies and diplomats have also been targeted by terrorists in other parts of the world, he said.
This shows that the Islamic Republic counters terror also proves wrong the claim by some countries that Iran supports terrorism, he added.
On August 8, 1998, Taliban militants killed 10 Iranian diplomats and an Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) correspondent in Mazar-i-Sharif.
