TEHRAN – The new Persian translation of Nahj-ul-Balagha of Imam Ali (AS) by veteran Iranian poet Seyyed Ali Musavi Garmarudi was unveiled during a ceremony at the Book City Institute on Tuesday.

The ceremony was attended by the deputy director of the institute, Ali-Asghar Mohammadkhani, scholar Bahaeddin Khorramshahi and Garmarudi.

Nahj-ul-Balagha was first compiled by Sharif Radi known in Persian as Seyyed Razi, who divided the work into three sections containing the speeches, letters and short sayings of Imam Ali (AS).

Published by Qadyani Publications, the translation took Garmarudi over six years of work and research.

Pointing to different translations of Nahj-ul-Balagha over the past years, Mohammadkhani said that the translation of Garmarudi has well reflected the eloquence observed in the words of Imam Ali (AS) in his Persian translation.

Addressing the participants, Garmarudi said, “Our astonishment over the words of Imam Ali (S) is not only because of the depth of the concepts hidden within his words, but also because of the power and strength of his speech”.

“Whatever has not been told about the miracle of rhythm in the words of Imam (AS) is that the rhythm follows the meaning of words rather than the form,” he added.

He also explained that in translation of words from Arabic into Persian, he has made use of archaic words, “I do not want to read a text that belongs to a period of over 1400 years ago in the form of today’s conversations”, he concluded.
