French expert Bernard Franco to discuss comparative literature in Tehran

May 7, 2016 - 10:40

TEHRAN - Professor Bernard Franco of Paris-Sorbonne University is scheduled to deliver a lecture on comparative literature this afternoon at the 29th Tehran International Book Fair, the organizers announced in a press release on Thursday.

In his article “European Comparative Literature as Humanism” Franco presents an epistemological reflection on comparative literature in the context of the evolution of the relationships between different forms of knowledge.

He wrote that in the late nineteenth century the notion of the “humanities” replaced that of the “human sciences,” but that we have recently returned to a humanist concept of knowledge linked to ethics.

Teacher at Paris-Sorbonne since 1992, Franco is professor of comparative literature and the director of the UFR of French and Comparative Literature at Paris-Sorbonne since 2012.
