New adaption of “Apardi Sellar Sarani” going on stage in Tehran
TEHRAN – A new adaptation of the Azerbaijani folk tale “Apardi Sellar Sarani” (“The Flood Took Sara”) will go on stage at Tehran’s Azadi Tower on July 24.
The play will be directed by Iraj Afshari-Asl who wrote the popular story.
The adaptation is about a playwright who is writing a play but is not particularly satisfied with some of the scenes; however, he is under pressure from the director to complete the script as soon as he can. The play he is writing is narrated by an ashiq, and the scenes are filled with Azeri folk songs.
An ashiq, also spelled ashik and ashug, is a mystic troubadour or traveling bard, who blends together instrumental and vocal music, dance, poetry and storytelling in his performances.
Ashiq Sirus Mehdipur, and actors Atash Taqipur, Fatemeh Shokri, Ali Yazerlu, Siavash Jame, Bahar Mahmudzadeh and Omid Saeidpur are among the major cast members of the play.
Advisor Atabak Naderi, stage and costume designer Mandana Manzari, and photographer Tina Taqipur are cooperating in this project.
The play will be on stage until August 17 at the major hall of the tower located on Azadi Square.
