56 million Iranians eligible to vote

TEHRAN – 56 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the council and presidential elections on May 19, according to the Interior Ministry election headquarters chief.

Speaking to ISNA on Tuesday, Ali Asqar Ahmadi said 1,350,294 people are expected to vote for the first time.

Ahmadi said he was speaking based on a 2016 census, adding all with a minimum age of 18 years can vote.

He also said Iranian expatriates who have lost their national IDs can use their passports to vote.
