Too-Noisy Tourist Jet Banned From Hong Kong

HONG KONG Hong Kong has banned a North Korean tourist jet from landing in the territory because the Russian-built plane is too noisy, a news report said Tuesday. The aging Tupolev TU-154 would have carried the first tour party from Hong Kong to the communist state, the South China Morning Post reported.
However, the Tupolev, flown by North Korea's national airline Air Koryo, does not meet Hong Kong's noise restrictions, a civil aviation department spokeswoman said. Fifty people from Hong Kong had signed up for the 850-dollars package tour of North Korea, which would have included visits to the North-South Korean border, mountain resorts and museums dedicated to the late "great leader" Kim Il-Sung, North Korea's founder.
