Annan Makes History

There is no dispute among the world political pundits that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan will go in history as champion for human cause. It was he who organized this ground-breaking historical event that will have far positive impact on mankind's fate.
What happened in the 55-year-old institution of the United Nations was something a foundation laid for ONE WORLD. It is impossible to predict when this noble idea will be translated into practice.
But that time will definitely come despite disagreement by some.
Some 150 sheikh, kings, presidents and prime minister attended three-day unprecedented UN Millennium Summit that ended on Friday.
The participants adopted a 32-point declaration that says the UN is the indispensable common house of the entire humanity' no matter what cast, creed and color. During their open and closed door session the world leaders focussed vital issues related to the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
The ambitious goal set by the participants for UN to strengthen peacekeeping and reduce poverty, specially in Africa.
It is really ironic and unfortunate that while 150 participants were signing the most important documents, Pentagon announced that Saudi Arabia made a request for U.S. military purchases valued at over $2.7 billion.
Both the United States and Saudi Arabia were among signatories of the document that pledged a renewed drive in pursuit of peace, security, disarmament and the eradication of poverty....' The weapons producers are greatly responsible for wars and regional tension. As long as weapon producers are there in this world, one should expect bloodshed and what not? But time will come surely it will come when the weapons producing plants will be closed down and things will be produced which are in dire need of the development of human personalities.
The United States that claims the most powerful and advanced country of the world should stop certain measures which are no good for the health of humans. These, on the top priority bases included, weapons and tobacco manufacturing businesses.
