BISHKEK The aftermath of a breakdown on the gas trunk line which supplies natural gas from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan has been eliminated, Turgunbek Kalmurzayev, director of the Kyrgyzgas Joint-Stock Company, announced on Friday.

Kalmurzayev said air locks had developed in the trunk line in the area of Bukhara about ten days ago due to heavy frosts and the supply of fuel to Kyrgyzstan decreased drastically as a result.

At present, in view of the critical situation which has developed in the provision of the population of Kyrgyzstan with energy resources, the Kyrgyz side has requested Uzbek gas suppliers additionally to deliver 40,000 cubic meters of gas an hour, Kalmurzayev said.

The outcome of the interruptions in the supply of gas to Kyrgyzstan was that the population in the republic's northern areas began to use electric heaters. Power substations did not endure such loads and went out of operation. As the result, the population remained without heating altogether. Now that the gas trunk line breakdown has been rectified, natural gas is expected to be supplied to the republic in full.
