KISH, Hormozgan Province The Kish Island in southern Iran will be the venue for the International Conference on Electronic and Internet Cities from April 30 to May 3 in which the participants will review latest achievements in related fields.

Meanwhile, the island will be the first place within the country to experience specifications of an electronic and Internet city which enables its inhabitants to meet their demands through electronic and Internet facilities.

Statistics available show that 80 percent of the world economy in future will be carried out on the basis of the Internet knowledge and technology.

Organizers of the conference say such a technology will be developed in Iran through Kish and with the establishment of the electronic city there.

Currently public classes for Internet training are open in Kish in an effort to promote the culture of Internet and information technology among the public.

In the first step, high school students will learn how to work with Internet and become acquainted with the applications of an electronic city.

However, the Internet city in Kish will be different with similar cities elsewhere in the world such as in Malaysia and UAE (Dubai) as those cities follow economic targets whereas academic, cultural and social aims are to be pursued in Kish.

Experts believe that realization of an electronic city in Kish will create job opportunities while it will make formation of the first Internet university in Iran possible.

It is said that some 2,000 students will be admitted to the Kish Internet university who can contact their teachers throughout the world through the Internet.

Electronic trade, banking and credit card are among other advantages of the electronic city of which the credit card system is being practiced in Kish.
