Iranian National Knifed, Injured in Glasgow

TEHRAN An Iranian national, seeking asylum in Britain was stabbed three times on back on Wednesday outside his house in Glasgow's Sighthill area, near the place where a Turkish Kurd was murdered.

The 22-year-old man whose name is not revealed was rushed to hospital and was released after receiving treatment, the reports said on Wednesday.

The attack follows more than 70 racist attacks on refugees that have been done over the past 14 months. The murder of Firsat Yildiz, the first asylum seeker to have been killed, provoked a series of protest demonstrations in Glasgow during the last few days.

Meanwhile, the British government has insisted that it would continue its policy of dispersing asylum seekers around the country, but suggested that it would send no more to the Sighthill area where some 3,000 asylum seekers, mainly from Middle East countries, are located.

The police were said to be looking for three white men in connection with the attack on the 22-year-old Iranian. In March, an unidentified Iranian asylum seeker was stabbed in Sunderland, northeast England, in what was described as "racially motivated."
